Incarceration isolates. Reentry overwhelms. Without support, the cycle continues.
Second Chancer Foundation breaks that cycle by providing what the system doesn't: human connection, practical guidance, and proof that transformation is possible. Our direct programs bring speakers, resources, and hope directly to the people who need them most.
Our approach is simple but powerful:
1. Bring in people who've been there. Our speakers and mentors have lived experience—they understand shame, isolation, and the long road back.
2. Create real connections. This isn't a one-time presentation. We build ongoing relationships and provide contact information so participants can reach out after release.
3. Link to resources. We connect participants with education, employment, housing, and other critical services they'll need for successful reentry.
4. Prove transformation is possible. Every speaker, every mentor, every success story reinforces the same message: you are more than your worst moment.
Since 2022, we've partnered with Blue Ridge Juvenile Detention Center to provide monthly leadership summits and community connection events for justice-impacted youth.
Each month, we bring in speakers who've faced similar challenges—people who've made mistakes, served time, and rebuilt their lives. These aren't lecturers. They're living proof that change is possible.
What We Provide:
Monthly Leadership Summits: Guest speakers share their stories, challenges, and paths to success
Family & Community Events: Connecting youth with local resources
Ongoing Mentorship: Building relationships that extend beyond a single conversation
Resource Connections: Linking participants to education, employment, and support services

One of the biggest challenges returning citizens face is the unknown. After years behind bars, navigating housing applications, job interviews, parole check-ins, and social services can feel overwhelming—even impossible.
What if people could practice before they walked out the gate?
That's the vision behind ViRSE (Virtual Reentry Simulation Experience), developed by OurJourney, a North Carolina-based nonprofit pioneering virtual reentry preparation technology. ViRSE is an interactive simulation platform accessible on tablets inside correctional facilities nationwide. Users create avatars and navigate real-world reentry scenarios specific to their state—applying for housing, finding employment, managing supervision requirements, accessing healthcare, and more.
The platform doesn't just teach—it lets people practice the skills they'll need, building confidence and competence before they ever step outside.
